Steph Richards has already made a name for herself in the worlds of avant-garde music and creative jazz - She has recorded for Relative Pitch and Northern Spy, worked with Laurie Anderson, Anthony Braxton, and Ravi Coltrane, and studied with Wadada Leo Smith - As a co-producer of the FONT Music Festival, Richards has worked for years alongside her fellow trumpeter Dave Douglas. Her records have been praised for their evident virtuosity and inventiveness, with the New York Times calling Richards "boldly inventive." Nate Chinen from NPR says that Richards is "ingenious," and Downbeat emphasized that she is "the latest notable figure" in jazz, while All About Jazz gets straight to the point, simply stating that Richards "kicks ass."
