Status/Non-Status is back in force with an epic and powerful indie rock album, a transcendent celebration of endurance, adaptation, and resilience. Big Changes is born from the moment when childhood innocence gives way to the responsibilities and anxieties of adulthood, a tension reflected in Adam Sturgeon's personal evolution as an artist. The Anishinaabe musician has continually transformed, shedding old identities, reclaiming his heritage, and shaping new projects such as Status/Non-Status and OMBIIGIZI. Through these changes, one constant remains: Sturgeon approaches every artistic project as a family affair, carrying the weight of the role of provider, protector, and father, while navigating a world often on the brink. Created in a studio set up in a former church in London, Ontario, Big Changes reflects both everyday life and social upheaval. The songs address the realities of life in a neighborhood marked by inequality, while exploring the experience of duality Sturgeon has lived throughout his life as a Métis Indigenous person. Tracks like "Big Changes," "Bones," and the two-part title "Bitumen Eyes" oscillate between ground-level observation and generational reflection, addressing colonial scars, environmental exploitation, and the complex legacy passed on to Indigenous youth.Throughout the album, Sturgeon maintains a palpable tension without resolving it, acknowledging uncertainty while seeking resilience.
