This 2003 album marked a real turning point for Static-X. Jonathan Davis from Korn had called on Wayne Static to sing "Not Meant for Me" for the Queen of the Damned soundtrack, and this unusually melodic tune pushed the band in a whole new direction. Before long, they parted ways with their former producer Ulrich Wild for Josh Abraham, who had worked with more mainstream bands like Staind and Velvet Revolver, and lost both drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Koichi Fukuda. But (partly thanks to the prodigious talents of A Perfect Circle's drummer, Josh Freese), out of all this turmoil came another Top 20 album, even though it challenged the devoted followers of their former industrial/nu metal sound while finding new audiences.
