Description

Far from the realms of electronic music, Starsailor crafts a pop with amber hues, dominated by acoustic guitars, an omnipresent piano, and the singing of James Walsh, filled with fervor, lyricism, and melancholy. In Alcoholic, like most of the tracks from the first album "Love Is Here," Starsailor paints a portrait of Northern England (between Manchester and Liverpool) ravaged by economic crises and social disasters of the late 80s, at a time when an entire generation silently drowned unemployment and poverty in pubs (Daddy Was An Alcoholic).
Both in its words and in its instrumentation, this tender and rebellious gaze on childhood, dignified, proud, and without self-pity, recalls the restraint of Jeff Buckley's songs, the musical postcards of the Waterboys, the works of Joseph Arthur, and of course the tense compositions of The Verve.
