SPRING ORIGINALS

Last year, Ace Records (in collaboration with Acid Jazz) highlighted the prestigious catalog of Spring Records with the project "Spring Revisited," opening the label's archives to some of the biggest names in electronic music to reinterpret tracks that have marked their careers. A New York label, Spring developed alongside the New York club scene, from underground parties in lofts to super disco clubs, including hip-hop and the Paradise Garage. Soon, a host of renowned producers, including Dimitri From Paris, Kenny Dope, Dave Lee, and Joe Claussell, signed mixes that set dancefloors ablaze. The mixes by Dimitri and Joe dominated the UK vinyl charts, closely followed by others. With "Spring Originals," we shine a light on the original versions of the tracks reinterpreted on the 45 RPM singles and the accompanying compilation. We have located the original tapes and uncovered not only the commercial versions but also previously unreleased mixes or those that remained on rare promos or B-sides. For instance, "We Got To Hit It Off" by Millie Jackson, remixed by Dimitri, is available here in its version by Jim Burgess, previously only available on a rare promo 45 RPM. The same goes for "Love Vibration" by Joe Simon, whose disco remix was hidden on the B-side of a 45 RPM. With "Night Fever" by Fatback Band, we found an unreleased long version that opens with an insane percussion break – perfect for mixing. The album comes with an exceptional cover, identical to that of "Spring Originals," allowing for a complete collection, and a detailed note from Frank Tope. It is also available on all digital platforms.
