SOWULO is the visionary project of Dutch composer and multi-instrumentalist Faber Horbach, whose immersive soundscapes draw deeply from ancient Northern European spirituality and the cyclical rhythms of nature. Using historical instruments and Anglo-Saxon lyrics, SOWULO invites listeners into a space of reflection, contemplation, and ritual.
On 'Niht' ("Night"), SOWULO journeys into sacred darkness, the realm of the subconscious, grief, and inner calm. Created in the wake of personal loss, the album presents night as a teacher and the moon as a guide. Tracks such as "Asteorfan" ("to die") and "Sol ond Mani" ("sun and moon") are conceived from grief, mythology, and transformation, using broken instruments and primal voices to confront the death of the ego and the void left by the loss of light. "Monaþblod" ("moon blood") channels feminine wisdom, menstruation, and the lunar rhythm through the powerful and raw vocal performances of Micky Huijsmans.
With cinematic depth and ritualistic force, 'Niht' becomes a spiritual act of surrender.
