Sourya stands somewhere between the melodic heights of a Brian Wilson with his memory restored and the furious formal exploration of Radiohead. Listening to "Cheese" and "Unsuspected," one might think that pop must have been born with this kind of musical freedom, which is not experimental in the way unnecessary experimentalists understand it, but which has the obviousness of a natural freedom, never a re-conquered one. It would be more than an understatement to say that JP Gonnod was merely the sound engineer for Sourya's second EP. His collaboration with the quartet went beyond simply recording instruments and the contractual recording period. The very approach to the songs was transformed, for example. JP Gonnod thus became Sourya's privileged partner.
