Soul Jazz presents their new heavyweight Studio Lab reggae compilation!
This new Studio One collection on Soul Jazz Records delves deep into the melting pot of reggae, funk and dub created at the musical laboratory at 13 Brentford Road, Kingston, in the 1970s – an intense collaboration of musicians, singers, DJs and engineers under the guidance of producer Clement ‘Coxsone’ Dodd.
This collection features the deepest and rawest cuts to come out of the Studio One factory – truly hypnotic rhythms, powerful funky guitars and basslines, soaring brass, and much more, interspersed with occasional vocals and toasts, as the musicians reach for the highest heights and the deepest roots of reggae.
Some of these tracks are rare classic cuts of Studio One vocal tracks from the likes of Horace Andy and Hortense Ellis. There’s also a wealth of material from some of Jamaica’s greatest musicians such as Jackie Mittoo, Roland Alphonso, Cedric Brooks, Ernest Ranglin and the Brentford All-Stars.
The album comes with extensive sleeve notes by Steve Barker (Wire magazine).
