Forgotten treasures from reggae's biggest names, unearthed from the Studio One archives. Soul Jazz Records releases Soul Jamaica, a rare compilation of reggae, soul, and funk tracks from the legendary Studio One label. It features Jackie Mittoo, The Heptones, The Gladiators, Peter Tosh, The Wailers, Cedric 'Im' Brooks, and other legends. These tracks, recorded between the end of rocksteady and the emergence of roots reggae, cover classics by Nina Simone, Sly & The Family Stone, and Diana Ross. Initially released in small batches on the British label Bamboo, they are now almost impossible to find. The album cover pays tribute to Air Jamaica, a symbol of the post-independence cultural surge, notably driven by reggae music.
