Soul Jazz presents its new sharp reggae compilation from Studio Lab! This new Studio collection on Soul Jazz Records dives into the heart of a melting pot of reggae, funk, and dub created in the musical laboratory at 13 Brentford Road, Kingston, in the 1970s: an intense collaboration of musicians, singers, DJs, and genius engineers under the direction of producer Clement "Coxsone" Dodd. This collection brings together the deepest and rawest tracks that emerged from the Studio One factory - truly hypnotic rhythms, powerful funk guitars and basses, soaring brass, and much more, interspersed with occasional vocals and toasts, as the musicians reach the highest peaks and the deepest roots of reggae. Some of these tracks are rare and classic versions of vocal tracks from Studio One like Horace Andy and Hortense Ellis. There is also a large amount of tracks from the greatest musicians in Jamaica like Jackie Mittoo, Roland Alphonso, Cedric Brooks, Ernest Ranglin, and the Brentford All-Stars. The album is accompanied by detailed notes from Steve Barker (Wire magazine).
