In 1959, exhausted by his success and frustrated by what he perceives as his own musical limitations, "Saxophone Colossus" takes a sabbatical year, allowing him to escape the free-jazz storm blowing through the clubs. After a trip to India, he spends nearly sixteen hours a day playing under the Williamsburg Bridge (between Manhattan and Brooklyn), so as not to disturb his neighbors. With renewed inspiration, he forms a new quartet without a piano and records in 1962, for RCA Records, the aptly named The Bridge, which connects his past productions with those to come, which are more free. Excerpt from the ideal Fnac discography 2017.
