Impala, the legendary second album by Songs: Ohia, released in 1998 and long out of print, is finally reissued on vinyl by Secretly Canadian. This reissue includes the addition of a remastered demo of "Tess," originally captured during the recording sessions of Impala. Lorain, Ohio, is a place where it is hard to grow up. You either escape or you don't. Given the industry that exists (or has existed) here - the steel mill, the Ford plant, and the shipyard - the mix of people is unparalleled. One thing is for sure, it is a blue-collar town, from end to end. Jason, the main force behind Songs: Ohia, grew up in this backwater, and even if you can leave the town, it never leaves you. Impala is a testament to Jason Molina's songwriting talents. The tracks it contains offer a glimpse into the soul of a man trying to exorcise the demons of life, loss, and subsistence. Reduced to Jason and Geof Comings for this release, the songs on Impala are both the most stripped-down and the most textured the band has ever released. It is one of the most honest and powerful albums by Songs: Ohia. Our suggestion: Head to the local Knights of Columbus, settle in at the bar, order a Genesee, and drink your paycheck while listening to this album. That's what they do in Lorain. Eco mix vinyl edition.
