Résistance

Description

SONGHOY BLUES released Résistance, their second album. The first album of the Malian group, titled Music In Exile released in February 2015, expressed the reality of the young ensemble facing the hardships of forced migration and hoping for a better future. Acclaimed by critics, the group has since been able to perform numerous concerts in the United States and Europe, including appearances at the Transmusicales de Rennes, Glastonbury, South By Southwest in Austin, and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Since then, transposing the traditional rhythms of Mali, their home country, into an aesthetic that owes much to rock and electric blues, SONGHOY BLUES infuses this second album produced by Neil Comber with a spirit of resistance in a hostile environment. Further proof that "the spirit of rock" has indeed followed them on this record, Iggy Pop himself guest stars on the track "Sahara," while English rapper Elf Kid, a member of the collective The Square, enriches "Mali Nord" with his engaged flow. For fans of: Damon Albarn, Hanni El Khatib, Bombino, Amadou and Mariam, Tinariwen.
