Description

Musically, Eastern Europe is most often remembered for the festive music played by gypsy brass bands or heart-wrenching sad songs. However, the range of sound emotions from this region is much broader. Founded in 1995 in Hungary on the benches of high school, SĒndĒrgĒ (pronounced "schundergueu") is made up of three brothers, a cousin, and a friend who have made it their mission to keep alive and evolve a music inherited from the Slavic populations of southern Hungary and based on the use of the tambura. This 5-string lute, one of which is double, a cousin of the saz or setar, was born in the Ottoman Empire and was exported by the Turks. The music that ensues is at once crystalline, romantic, or euphoric, but always delicate (Mondomix). The Eredics cousins and brothers are from Szentendre, a small village with a Serbian minority near Budapest on the banks of the Danube. Multi-instrumentalists and virtuosos despite their young age, they are the guardians of this Balkan music that is still played among the Serbo-Croatian minorities in Hungary. After a successful entry onto the international stage in 2012 with their album "Tamburising Lost Music of the Balkans" with World Village, this atypical Hungarian Tambura group embarked on a charm offensive with a new tour in 2014 and an album to boot: "Tamburocket," a UFO between archaism and modernity, in the footsteps of Béla Bartók and Tihamér Vujicsics.
