Description

Born and raised in the suburbs of Mexico City, the Gama brothers carry on the rich family heritage of the marimba through Son Rompe Pera. While completely rooted in tradition, the band reinterprets this historic instrument and pushes its boundaries, shifting it into the garage/punk world of outsiders and firmly anchoring it in the 21st century. Originally, the brothers performed alongside their father at local events when they were children, but today they are at the forefront of the contemporary international cumbia scene thanks to their sonic explorations of the marimba. Their absolutely unique combination stems from a typical youthful rebellion, when in their teenage years they abandoned their education to play in various punk, rockabilly, and ska bands. Now that the circle is complete with the marimba's resurgence, these Mexicans will make you dance with a unique blend of garage, punk, and cumbia played on the mythical instrument like no one has ever done before.
