Description

The best of the famous Lebanese cult band finally (re)released! Soapkills, the iconic band of Yasmine Hamdan, has become a cult band in the Arab world and well beyond.. Formed in the late 90s by Yasmine Hamdan and Zeid Hamdan, both born in Lebanon and unrelated, Soapkills was one of the very first indie bands to emerge in the Middle East... By drawing their inspiration from classical and folk Arabic music, as well as dub and trip hop electronic music, they embodied the soundtrack of the young and vibrant Lebanese artistic scene that developed in the post-war period. After three albums respectively titled Bater (2001), Cheftak (2002), and Enta Fen (2005), all released on small Lebanese labels, the band ceased its activities when Yasmine moved to Paris. There, she first teamed up with Mirwais to create the Y.A.S. project before working on her first solo album, Ya Nass (2013), while Zeid, who stayed in Lebanon, became an artistic activist and a respected producer.
