This album is pure, concentrated, 100% vintage Bristol Sound at its best. For those of us who experienced it and even for those who didn't, it's a time portal to those lazy days of the late eighties in Bristol when this music was radical and new, and we had the joy of hearing each of these tracks for the very first time. You reach a certain age and it's easy to reminisce through rose-colored glasses. That's not the case here - we knew they were special the first time we heard them. Nearly forty years later, many, many people have followed in their footsteps, and these originals have only grown in stature. Smith & Mighty, named after its two founders, Rob Smith and Ray Mighty, is a British group from Bristol. Like Massive Attack or even Carlton, both also from Bristol, Smith & Mighty is retrospectively considered one of the pioneering groups of the trip hop movement. More broadly, they are among the craftsmen of the Bristol sound, associated throughout the 1990s with artists such as Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, or Roni Size.
