Kalonji

Description

Miguel Collins aka Sizzla Kalonji, born April 17, 1976 in August Town/Kingston, Jamaica, made his first foray into music as a singer for Caveman Hi-Fi. His energetic singjay style and witty lyrics earned him enthusiastic recognition with his debut album in 1995, "Burning Up", while its 1997 successor, "Black Woman & Child", was an international breakthrough, earning Sizzla the 1998 MOBO Award and a spot in various magazines' top 100 albums of the year. At the time, Sizzla was part of Phillip Burrel's XTerminator stable and toured with Luciano and other artists from the new roots&culture wave. Sizzla is prolific, even by Jamaican standards. Since 1995, he has released over 30 albums and probably over 400 singles. With such output, fans often complain about the mediocrity of many of them, but Sizzla still manages to surprise listeners with a quality album after a few mediocre ones.
