Description

Inspired by Alda Merini's poetry and her studies with composer Garret List, Italian violinist and composer Silvia Tarozzi embarked on a singing career after many years invested in contemporary music and free improvisation. For nearly ten years, Tarozzi practiced setting Alda Merini's poetry to music, then replaced it with her own poetry to convey her personal experiences. The result is 'Mi Specchio E Rifletto,' a superb blend of baroque folk, avant-garde, and progressive classical music, intended to be both poetic and deeply autobiographical. Echoes of past masterpieces resonate throughout: the gentle chamber music explorations of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, the science fiction aspect of Franco Battiato's "Fetus," the abstract free jazz of Maria Monti's "Il Bestiario," the sweetness of Caterina Casseli's "Primavera." As a solo performer, Silvia Tarozzi has long collaborated with composers Eliane Radigue, Pascale Criton, Cassandra Miller, and Martin Arnold. In a duo with Deborah Walker, and as a member of Ensemble Dedalus, she has worked with Christian Wolff, Jürg Frey, Michael Pisaro, Catherine Lamb, Sébastien Roux, and many others. In 2018, she released 'Extreemizms: Early & Late' with Philip Corner on Unseen Worlds.
