After several years of intense world touring, the post-punk duo She Past Away returned to the studio. The haunting single “Inziva,” released in 2024, sparked anticipation for the next chapter in their musical journey. “Mizantrop,” the long-awaited seven-track EP, invites solitary and introspective listening. She Past Away retains its characteristic atmospheric and melancholic post-punk style, driven by a powerful and precise bassline. The dark music and nostalgia-laden lyrics in Turkish on “Mizantrop” explore the darkest aspects of the human condition. The contemplative opening track, “Içimdeki Düsman,” and the more energetic title track establish an atmosphere of introspection and reflection. The following tracks, “Sessiz Orman,” “Kaygan Kayaliklar” and “Kuyu Mezar,” translate respectively as “Silent Forest,” “Slippery Cliffs” and “Stone Tomb,” all evocative places of isolation and solitude, places where one withdraws to recharge. Inziva is voluntary refuge. Like She Past Away’s previous albums, Belirdi Gece (2012) and Narin Yalnizli (2015), Mizantrop closes with the instrumental track Içe Kapanis III, the most hopeful ending in the series.
