"Never before has so much time passed between two recordings," admits the American artist, who is accustomed to long tunnels of silence. Shannon's songs arise from necessity, and while this wasn't truly the case for Reservoir of Love, one might say they are a matter of life or death. After Providence (2019), there was the pandemic, a global shock, then the discovery of an autoimmune disease, an intimate trauma. "Doctors told me that if I hadn't gone to the hospital that night in 2022, I would be dead today," she confides. "I thought music was over for me." Reservoir of Love comes, fortunately, to shatter this foreboding. Music has won. "I had a few melodies running through my head before my hospitalization," recalls Shannon Wright. It is these melodies that initiate the work on this new album. In the small room of her Atlanta apartment, which she has transformed into a home studio, Shannon immerses herself. The Hits is the first song to pierce the darkness that the musician is going through. "This song reignited the spark of music and brought me back to a familiar place," she analyzes today. An album was not yet on the table then - its contours will take shape as the songs burst forth and are patiently worked on in solitude.
