Bruno Silva, aka Serpente, returns with Visita do Fogo - an incisive, stripped-down and explosive album, a counterpoint to the drifting dream-jazz abstractions of Dias da Aranha. If the latter floated like smoke, this one crackles and snaps like dry wood. With Visita do Fogo, Silva reconnects with the energy of his rhythmic beginnings, adopting a raw and direct approach, closer to the explosion of his live performances than to a studio construction. The album is built on raw materials - drum fragments, percussive jolts, abrasive loops - all handled with his highly characteristic instinct for “detournement”: micro-cuts, sudden pivots, false rhythmic floors and the feeling that the track could turn back on itself at any moment. Rather than softening the rough edges or lingering on atmospheres, Serpente puts everything on urgency. Each track moves through the album with a jerky, energetic physicality, a kind of ritual propulsion that never settles into comfort. Silva’s rhythmic language remains entirely his own: tortuous yet precise, wild yet meticulous, rooted in dance structures while constantly breaking free of them. Visita do Fogo is less a follow-up to Dias da Aranha than a bursting explosion in the same night sky - more intense, more burning, designed to leave indelible images. It captures an artist in combustion, shedding all excess, trusting the flame.
