Though Cannonball Adderley experimented with many styles and formats over the course of his career, the album *Cannonball's Bossa Nova* still stands as an unusual work in his discography. That is true not only due to the Brazilian style to which the album is devoted, but also because he is not accompanied here by his usual collaborators, or indeed by any other jazz musicians. In fact, with the exception of the saxophonist, all of the other musicians present are Brazilian. Sérgio Mendes’ group traveled to New York for the sessions. Drummer Dom Um Romao would eventually remain in the U.S., where he became a member of Weather Report.
