SEPULQUARTA

Description

“You will remain in the cage, in the cage, they will lock you up for life.” As the pandemic paralyzed the world and kept bands from touring, Sepultura, Latin America’s biggest metal export, refused to sit idly by and remain like an animal in a cage. Like the flowers growing on the body of the deceased bird depicted on Eduardo Recife’s stunning colorful cover art, the Belo Horizonte thrash metal pioneers used their unexpected downtime to launch a project that kept them busy throughout 2020: “‘Sepulquarta’ was born right at the beginning of the pandemic, when everything was at a standstill,” guitarist Andreas Kisser recalls. “We had released a new album, but we couldn’t tour for it. That’s why we created this recurring event where we could talk to our fans around the world, play our music and exchange ideas, it was great! ‘Sepulquarta’ allowed us to stay alive and strong during one of the most difficult periods in human history.” “Doing ‘Sepulquarta’ during this period allowed me to stay in touch with music. Playing my instrument was the only thing I could do during this pandemic,” adds drummer Eloy Casagrande, and indeed, music seemed to be a good way to cope with the endless lockdown and the fear of loss and isolation that haunted people around the world. Apparently, the Brazilian pioneers were not the only musicians feeling this way, so they started networking with friends and colleagues from around the world, asking them not only to be part of their weekly podcast, but also to join them in playing one of Sepultura’s classics. From the safety of their homes, international stars such as David Ellefson, Scott Ian, Danko Jones, Devin Townsend, Matt Heafy and many others joined the band to record a Sepultura track, which has now been mixed and mastered by Conrado Ruther. “We invited our incredibly talented friends to be part of our project, either by playing with us or as guests in the many Q&As we held,” Andreas explains. “We talked, among other things, about our history, music, politics, sports, philosophy, depression and the environment. We learned a lot from expert guests and many great minds of today. Here you will find unique performances of Sepultura music from the many phases of our career, with incredible guest musicians who lent us their talent and energy to record these historic versions!”
