African variations : la ronde des oiseaux

With African Variations, a project they have been carrying on record and on the road since 2016, guitarist and cellist Sébastien Giniaux and kora player Cherif Soumano take us on this new album from jazz in Paris to desert blues, from kora arabesques to virtuoso cello, to the poignant flamenco vocal flights of Paloma Pradal. A meeting point between different musical cultures, but not only... First because Cherif and Sébastien have musical worlds that go far beyond their original culture. Indeed, Cherif Soumano, master of the kora and Malian music, has been able to broaden his musical scope through contact with Marcus Miller, Roberto Fonseca, or Mathieu Chedid… And Sébastien Giniaux, after making a name for himself at the very top of gypsy jazz, has followed varied paths alongside the greatest names in contemporary jazz and world music (Taraf de Haidouk, Didier Lockwood, ...) Embracing the possibilities offered by the studio, the album knows how to break free from the duo format by offering bold arrangements blending kora, cello, acoustic and electric guitars. Flamenco singer Paloma Pradal joins the duo on 2 gems with evocative lyrics, powerful vocal flights and palmas.
