Formed in the tumultuous Austin noise punk scene of the early 1980s, Scratch Acid quickly distinguished itself from the dominant hardcore sound, preferring a stranger, more artistic approach. Their eponymous debut EP, released in 1984 on Rabid Cat Records, immediately captivated Corey Rusk of Touch and Go Records, who would become their main supporter thereafter. With an intense stage aesthetic and an abrasive sound spread via fanzines, college radio, and word-of-mouth, the band established themselves as a major curiosity on the American independent circuit. They released a single album (Just Keep Eating, 1986), followed by the Berserker EP on Touch and Go (1987), before disbanding after 146 concerts and several notable tours. Often cited as a major influence by the 1990s alternative scene, Scratch Acid remains a cult band, pioneers of experimental and visceral noise punk. 180g vinyl edition.
