Leader of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Saxon achieved massive success in the mid-80s, notably with the albums Power and The Glory and Crusader. Keeping their songwriting talent intact, the band led by Biff Byford definitively leaned toward the US with their subsequent albums, Innocence Is No Excuse, Rock The Nations, and Destiny, presented today in remastered versions. Immediately catchy with the track "Rockin' Again," Innocence Is No Excuse is a very solid collection, containing "Devil Rides Out," also featured live in this reissue, and the irresistible "Broken Heroes." Saxon then demonstrates all its technical virtuosity with Rock The Nations, where it flirts with mainstream rock for the occasion, aided on two tracks ("Party Til You Puke" and "Northern Lady") by Elton John's discreet piano. Continuing its FM turn, the band finally delivered an interesting Destiny in 1988, which shines particularly on "Ride Like The Wind," "Calm Before The Storm," and "Jericho Siren." Enhanced with B-sides, alternative mixes, and live tracks, these reissues are a treat for Heavy Metal fans.
