Description

The long-awaited debut album from Sandman Project is a boundaryless amalgamation of heavy brass sounds, a testament to a group whose musical tendencies reflect their open-minded ethos where Ethio-jazz, Afrobeat, American soul music, and psychedelic Mediterranean funk intersect. Led by guitarist and composer Tal Sandman, the latest album from Tel Aviv-based Sandman Project dates back to 2018 with their first EP, their only existing recording. Six years later, it is no surprise that this expansive work is brimming with an ocean of ideas, rooted in jazz, exceptionally crafted, and featuring a myriad of musical pivots with subtle yet crucial production and synthesizer touches from producer Tomer Baruch. The ongoing influence of saxophonist Abate Barihun, sometimes known as the Ethiopian John Coltrane, is a key element of this new recording and of Tal's musical education. He is an Ethiopian Jew who emigrated to Israel in 1999.
