Unique in Gypsy jazz, this guitar-violin-piano lineup transcends boundaries and styles, evoking jazz, chamber music, Gypsy music, and tango all at once.
Following the release of their first album (Rire avec Charlie) in 2017, the trio formed by Gypsy guitarist Samson Schmitt and the two Belgian virtuosos Joachim Iannello (violin) and Johan Dupont (piano) has achieved great cohesion and developed a remarkable synergy in the interplay between Joachim's rough and brassy violin virtuosity, Johan's unbridled imagination and swing, and the modern yet timeless depth of Samson's guitar.
Unique in Gypsy jazz, this guitar/violin/piano format transcends boundaries and styles, evoking jazz, chamber music, Gypsy music, and tango all at once. This new repertoire will consist mainly of original compositions. From the abundance of rhythms (produced solely by string instruments – plucked, bowed, or struck) to the intoxicating melodies, and the freshness of the harmonies (one of Samson's strong points), the trio elegantly combines instrumental power with the subtlety of a chamber music setting.
