Sad About The Times

Description

THE NEW ANTHOLOGY COMPILATION BY MIKEY YOUNG & KEITH ABRAHAMSSON POWER POP, FOLK PSYCH, 70S SOFT ROCK 100% GUARANTEED SADNESS Has the era you live in ever depressed you? You may not always be able to pull yourself out of that sadness, but at least you can soften your blues with songs like these. Mikey Young (Total Control / Eddy Suppression Ring) and Keith Abrahamsson (art director at Anthology Recordings) team up again after their Follow The Sun compilation (2017) to bring you Sad About the Times, a collection of North American 70s jammers. With a touch of West Coast jangle here and there, these tracks straddle the line between the power pop of the era and the late-night jams of drug-sponsored parties. You can also hear echoes of folk rock, soft rock, and even detect a few psychedelic flashbacks. However, despite the genre detours, the atmosphere of Sad About The Times remains dominated by a haunted vocal. These songs follow in the wake of the psychedelic 60s, after extravagant idealism had run its course and singer-songwriters had taken the upper hand. After the party comes reality. All these tracks could have been hits. In their own way, they all subtly convey universal emotions, hard to describe but easy to feel. Sadness can be an affirmation of life; these songs can open that door. If they couldn’t, they wouldn’t be so enjoyable. "Heaven is boring, hell is where the action is" said someone; but if you mix the two together, you might find songs like these. 20 tracks with Willow, Jim Spencer, Sky, Emmett Finley, David Chalmers, Hoover, Perth County Conspiracy, Jode, Norma Tanega and much more.
