The Chicago prodigy continues his sonic explorations with this splendid and more experimental fourth album. The Chicagoan delivers a fourth album that borders on a classic, where the composer remains largely unconcerned with the trends of his time, drawing inspiration primarily from an era when Tim Buckley and Van Morrison pushed the boundaries of folk to the fringes of baroque and exalted jazz. Ryley Walker has toured extensively. Most importantly, he remembered his formative years in Chicago, listening to the post-rock of Gastr del Sol or Tortoise, and the improvisation sessions organized by multi-instrumentalist Leroy Bach, so it is logical that "Deafman Glance" is Ryley Walker's second album produced by LeRoy Bach and Walker himself. It was primarily recorded at Minbal Studio in Chicago. Other recording sessions took place later at USA Studios and in LeRoy's kitchen. Cooper Crain (Bitchin'Bajas, Cave) recorded and mixed the album, and played some of the synths on the album.
