"Skylla is the debut solo recording from Italian-born, London-based composer, bassist, and vocalist Ruth Goller. This album of otherworldly detuned bass harmonics and dense vocal arrangements was originally issued in 2021 by Vula Viel Records, the label of longtime collaborator Bex Burch, and quickly sold out. Since then, Goller’s star has only continued to rise, and her follow-up record, SKYLLUMINA, was released by International Anthem in early 2024 to widespread acclaim. Skylla is the genesis of her sound, and it’s a sound that’s hard to place. Listeners could be convinced these recordings emanated from contexts as disparate as downtown NYC in the 80s or a mysterious Icelandic project from the 2010s proximate to Bjork. It’s hard to imagine one person making this music despite the fact that its elements are instantly recognizable."
