Memorial

Description

Memorial, the fifth album by Russian Circles, stands out for its wide emotional palette. Oscillating between dark melodic surges and moments of crushing metallic power, the record plays on the most extreme contrasts. As the band explains, the heavy passages here are even more massive and exaggerated, while the more “beautiful” moments prove delicate and atmospheric. Conceived after a long world tour following Empros, the album reflects a desire to move toward a more direct, darker, and more intense sound, far from any gratuitous virtuosity. Each track has its own emotional identity, giving Memorial an almost cathartic structure, like a journey through the different stages of grief. This approach is reinforced by the participation of Chelsea Wolfe, who lends her haunting voice to the closing track. With Memorial, Russian Circles deliver a record that is both radical and cohesive, a true sonic roller coaster where extreme heaviness and fragile beauty coexist.
