Closet Botanist

Description

In 2020, Rudy De Anda left California for the first time in his career and headed East. Somewhere in the back of the truck, among the boxes and luggage, is a nearly finished record. Rudy was born in Los Angeles and spent most of his formative years in Long Beach. Rudy's previous albums had thus become synonymous with California sunshine. Upon arriving in Chicago, Rudy quickly found the final pieces of his second album, Closet Botanist. The change of location altered the mood of the record. Closet Botanist does not completely stray from Rudy's psych-rock roots, but it feels more mature. Rudy draws direct inspiration from The Velvet Underground and The Kinks. For the seasoned listener, there is a psychedelic thread to be found in the tracklist. It is an album dedicated to those who love others so much that they end up neglecting themselves. The album was recorded in Austin, Texas, at Electric Deluxe studio. Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas) contributed to the production and recording of the record. For fans of Adrian Quesada, Black Pumas, Chicano Batman, Brainstory, Drugdealer, Sugar Candy Mountain.
