Romain Pilon, one of the great jazz guitarists of today, a must-discover!Guitarist Romain Pilon is internationally recognized for his "impeccable technique and the delicacy of his sound," qualities that make him one of the great contemporary jazz guitarists. Respected by his peers, enriched by collaborations with major artists such as drummer Brian Blade (with whom he recorded two albums and toured in the United States), saxophonist Walter Smith III, and pianists Pierre de Bethmann and Baptiste Trotignon in France, he possesses a very original style, marked by a keen sense of melody and phrasing. For this new album "Open Roads," Romain formed a core trio with English double bassist Orlando le Fleming and American drummer Mark Whitfield, Jr., two musicians who are benchmarks on the contemporary jazz scene, with a musical background rooted in tradition that incorporates remarkable elements of modernity. On half of the tracks, the guitarist adds two musicians, Belgian trumpeter Jean-Paul Estiévenart and French vibraphonist Alexis Valet, thus forming a quintet based on a rare combination of instrumental timbres that gives this album a very singular coloring.
