Already with his concept albums for MPS in the 1970s and 1980s, a central artistic part of his work lay not only in the conceptualization and recording, but also in the production of the studio recordings. Rolf Kühn also follows this path in his new studio production 'Stereo', the first for the MPS label, reactivated by Edel. The recordings at "Blackbird Studio" in Berlin, a studio on the Spree with a wonderful "dry" sound, were recorded on separate audio tracks, using a stereo technique that can also be heard visually as a sound image. In fact, the sounds unfold like a film before your mind. For this special and highly sensual production, Kühn gathered around him his Berlin trio: his "Working Band" with drummer Christian Lillinger, who captures the finest sound nanoparticles, guitarist and experimental sound researcher Ronny Graupe and the one who masterfully grounds and accents the sound, bassist Johannes Fink, whose virtuosic bow work carves into the soundscape like the technique of a drypoint engraving.
