Roger Waters, the creative power and songwriting force of Pink Floyd, announces his first rock album in 25 years Is This The Life We Really Want?. The album will be available for pre-order tomorrow, April 21, and will be released worldwide on Friday, June 2, via Columbia Records.
Additionally, Waters is launching his North American tour Us+Them in Kansas City (Missouri) on Friday, May 26. The Us+Them tour will continue until October 28, ending in Vancouver (British Columbia). A complete list of tour dates is below.
Roger Waters' last studio album, Amused To Death, in 1992, was a valuable study of popular culture, exploring the power of television at the time of the first Gulf War. The highly anticipated new album of 2017 Is This The Life We Really Want?, is a relentless commentary on the modern world and uncertain times. Waters' upcoming LP is the natural successor to Pink Floyd standards such as the album Animals and The Wall.
Produced and mixed by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Beck, U2, "From The Basement"), Is This The Life We Really Want? includes 12 new compositions and studio performances by Roger Waters.
The physical album includes a double 180-gram vinyl LP with gatefold and a 4-panel digipack CD. The physical and digital formats of the album will be available for pre-order starting April 21.
The musicians on Is This The Life We Really Want? are: Roger Waters (vocals, acoustic guitar, bass), Nigel Godrich (arrangement, editing, keyboards, guitar), Gus Seyffert (bass, guitar, keyboards), Jonathan Wilson (guitar, keyboards), Joey Waronker (percussion), Roger Manning (keyboards), Lee Pardini (keyboards), and Lucius (vocals) with Jessica Wolfe and Holly Proctor.
The tracks from Is This The Life We Really Want? include: "When We Were Young," "Déjà vu," "The Last Refugee," "Picture That," "Broken Bones," "The Life We Really Want," "A Bird In A Gale," "The Most Beautiful Girl," "Smell the Roses," "Wait For Her," "Oceans Apart," and "Part of Me Died." The lyrics for 'Wait for Her' were written by Roger Waters and inspired by an English translation by an unknown author of "Lesson from the Kama Sutra (Wait for Her)," by Mahmoud Darwish.
