"You could say it's a lost album," confides Rodney Crowell. "I stumbled upon it by chance in my archives. I had completely forgotten about it." He's talking about *Then Again*, which he recorded and set aside twenty years ago before moving on to other horizons. Since then, the album has been waiting for its moment, the time when its songs would resonate the strongest. And today, they resonate incredibly strongly, thanks in large part to the wisdom gained with age and experience. "I'm glad I set it aside, because the time has come. Maybe not for the rest of the world, but for me, it's the moment. That's why I wanted to call it *Then Again*. I thought it was a clever way of saying that what was happening then is happening again today. Once lost, then found, *Then Again* is something the Rodney Crowell of the 2000s could never have predicted, but that the Rodney Crowell of the 2020s instinctively recognizes: a nuanced, insightful, and sensitive work that addresses death while celebrating life. I'm trying to understand that my spirit is going to leave this body and go somewhere else. I'm almost certain it will be a pleasant place, but I still have part of my spiritual journey to complete here below before I leave. I already perceive it in these songs."
