Legacy Recordings is proud to announce the release of "Out Among The Stars" (Columbia/Legacy), an incredible new album consisting of 12 recordings by Johnny Cash recently discovered by his son John Carter Cash. The tracks on "Out Among The Stars" were recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, at Columbia Studios in 1981 and at 1111 Sound Studio in 1984, and produced by Billy Sherrill, the architect of the 'countrypolitan' sound, who was then in charge of the artistic direction at CBS Records in Nashville. On these tracks - which include two duets with his wife, June Carter Cash, and one with Waylon Jennings - Johnny Cash worked with an expanded group featuring a young Marty Stuart at the time (on guitar and mandolin), as well as Jerry Kennedy (on guitar), Pete Drake (on steel guitar), Hargus "Pig" Robbins (on piano), and Henry Strzelecki (on bass), all four members of the "Nashville A-Team," a nickname given to a circle of renowned studio musicians in the city. These completely unreleased recordings are neither demos nor mere unused takes or alternative versions of existing songs. They remained in the drawers when Columbia Records released Johnny Cash's last albums for the label and were forgotten afterward. "Out Among The Stars" is the result of this work and constitutes a superb album by Johnny Cash, bridging the rockabilly of his Sun Records years and his absolutely landmark later albums recorded for American Recordings. In nearly fifty years of career, the one who was nicknamed "The Man in Black" was not only one of the most prolific artists in the studio; he was also an archetype of American music, having become a major figure in popular culture without ever betraying himself.
