HOME MOVIES

Description

For their first film, Don Giovanni, Home Movies, Rodeo Boys raise the bar. Their music owes as much to country twang as it does to grunge fuzz, and it's a winning combination. The lead single "Sugar" sits somewhere between Bully and SPICE, a raw slice of feedback-saturated rock 'n' roll that immediately shows where the passions of the Rodeo Boys lie: in loud, crunchy, and catchy alternative rock. "Dog Leg" plays like an oversized version of classic rock, with roaring solos and guttural choruses, and the epic conclusion "Tomboy Radio" is a masterclass in dynamic prog. Home Movies hardly falters during its 40 minutes, with the spacey folks of "Hail Mary" providing a few minutes of respite, but everything seems to flow. Singer Tiff Hannay says that the goal of the Rodeo Boys as a working-class queer band is "to give a voice to young queers in small towns," and what a powerful voice it is.
