PENINSULAR (vinyl)

Description

Winner of the Best Original Score at the SUNDANCE FESTIVAL 2013 for the film 'Matre milo' - Soundtrack release on 24/06 A current. That is what seems to carry the music of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Robin Foster. A hypnotic flow carrying images of passing landscapes, cities pulsing at night and murky colors, in an endless road movie. Enchanting and sensual, his melancholic instrumental compositions bring forth a tension as elusive as it is undeniable, steeped in strong cinematic textures, electronic loops and airy keyboards; all carried by waves of guitars. In the swirls, sometimes subtle, sometimes powerful, where Robin Foster’s music undulates, influences stand out in small touches: Talk Talk, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Radiohead, New Order or even The Smiths... But other inspirations also feed the British artist’s “cinematic post-rock”: the images of Michael Mann (Heat, Miami Vice), Ridley Scott (Bladerunner) and David Lynch; the music of Ennio Morricone (For a Few Dollars More) too. From “Life is Elsewhere” to the Sundance Festival: music, image and the road. In 2008, Robin released a first album praised by critics: “Life Is Elsewhere”. Then came “Where do we go from here?” at the end of 2011, with the beautiful collaborations of Dave Pen (BirdPen, Archive) and Ndidi O. Critical reception was equally positive, and Robin spent the following year on the road, captivating audiences everywhere in France, Belgium and Germany. From the duo between Foster and Oscar-nominated writer/director Sean Ellis came collaborations for brands as prestigious as Hugo Boss and Kenneth Cole. After the success of his second album, Robin devoted himself to writing the soundtrack for Metro Manila, Ellis’s first feature film (released in France in June 2013). Once the Metro Manila soundtrack was finished, Robin could tackle his new project, much more personal this time: “PenInsular” - a third album recorded in Robin’s studio in Camaret, Brittany. An entirely instrumental album, intended as a tribute to Robin’s adopted city and its inhabitants. Mixed in Manchester by Jim Spencer (The Charlatans, Vaccines, New Order), each track on “PenInsular” is named after a region of the peninsula and often refers to its natural landscapes. Robin describes this album as a “postcard from the end of the world”. It captures perfectly the very essence of this magnificent and wild coast.
