Mendelssohn rarities

Description

Although Mendelssohn is universally recognized as the author of the Italian Symphony, the Violin Concerto in D minor, and the Songs Without Words, our knowledge of his contribution to piano production is still very partial today. A large number of his compositions remained unknown until their publication in recent years. The two recordings presented here address this shortcoming by unveiling entirely new pieces, written over a long period of the composer's creative life. The first, Mendelssohn rarities, features four sonatas and three études composed in 1820, at the age of eleven, as well as two fugues of mature quality dating from 1826. Mendelssohn discoveries also brings together several youthful works from the 1820s up to the solo piano transcription of three movements from the incidental music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, made by Mendelssohn himself in 1844. These important works open a window into the creative laboratory of the young musician and demonstrate the musical influences that shaped the development of his style. Their sensational discovery by ROBERTO PROSSEDA and their recording for DECCA have sparked a flurry of awards in the global specialized press. Born in Italy in 1975, ROBERTO PROSSEDA is considered one of the greatest Italian pianists of his generation for his originality and strong artistic personality, as well as his great technical skill and very lyrical style.
