The new album from the most HIP HOP of JAZZ pianists. After a year in which he accompanied the biggest names in the hip hop scene (Q-Tip, MOS DEF, MAXWELL), ROBERT GLASPER releases his new album "Double Booked" on August 24. An artist and two universes, here is "Double-Booked," the third album by pianist Robert Glasper for Blue Note, after "Canvas" in 2005 and "In My Element." With "Double-Booked," this Houston native, now thirty-two years old, aims for the center and highlights the two hemispheres of his musical brain: the Robert Glasper Trio, acoustic, and the Robert Glasper Experiment, hip-hop oriented. In the trio part of the album, Glasper is joined by bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Chris Dave (Meshell Ndegeocello) on the first six tracks of "Double-Booked." Chris Dave remains present in the Hip Hop experiment part of the album, but we also find the exceptional participation of MOS DEF (track 7) and BILAL (track 11 and 12). Acclaimed by music lovers and critics, Glasper has also earned the respect of jazz musicians, who make up the most difficult audience there is. In a blindfold test by Down Beat magazine in May 2008, one of his fellow pianists immediately recognized Glasper and called him a "fantastic musician." With "Double-Booked," he continues to showcase the range of his talents, which he puts to the service of a new genre likely to push the artistic boundaries of modern jazz even further.
