For this new project, Hall Of Fame Blues member Robert Cray traveled to Memphis with renowned producer Steve Jordan to create an album with soul accents alongside the Hi Rhythm band.
For over four decades, Robert Cray has been bridging blues, soul, and R&B, which has earned him no less than 5 Grammy Awards. With his longtime friend Steve Jordan, they decided to realize their love for Memphis soul by recording an album at the legendary Royal Studios (Ann Peebles, Al Green, Sly Johnson, Otis Clay). As a tribute to that era, the album features both original compositions and covers enhanced by Cray's guitar and the arrangements of Hi Rhythm.
For this new album, Cray composed "You Had My Heart" and "The Way We Are," two beautiful love songs. There is also a warm version of "The Same Love That Made Me Laugh" by Bill Withers that sounds like back in the day, as well as two tracks by Tony Joe White and sublime tributes to O.V. Wright and Sir Mac Rice. A superb blues album infused with soul recorded in Memphis with legendary studio musicians. It's all there!
