The story of Ritual Howls begins in a basement in southwest Detroit in early winter 2012. Singer and guitarist Paul Bancell had written and performed solo as well as in several bands and was looking for collaborators for a new project. Ben Saginaw (bass) and Chris Samuels (synthesizers, drums, drum machines) were acquaintances who came together naturally. With the help of a friend (Jeff Navarre), they recorded their first album in Ben's art studio using a laptop. Paul recorded the vocals at home, in his bedroom, and, not wanting to lose control, mixed and mastered the album himself. A formidable introduction to the band's haunting and cinematic blend of glitzy industrial rock, their self-titled album established the group as a unique force in the dark music landscape, both past and present. Separated by a decade, four albums, and two EPs later, Ritual Howls is a debut record that showcases impressive cohesion and the band's vision, which, even in its early days, forged a distinct sound that has only matured perfectly over time. Deluxe edition with new mixes by Adam Stilson, mastering by Rafael Anton Irisarri, and a reimagining of the original cover by Chris Samuels. The CD includes a 12-page booklet containing the lyrics and photos from the time of the original release.
