Toccate d'intavolatura di cimbalo et organo Libro primo
Description
On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the publication of the Primo Libro di Toccate (1615), Arcana is pleased to add back to its catalogue this reference recording of the most famous work by Girolamo Frescobaldi. Rinaldo Alessandrini once again demonstrates his great qualities as a keyboard virtuoso, as well as his deep knowledge of the madrigal repertoire of the period, indispensable for a proper approach to this revolutionary opus, where the affetti are fundamental and rhetoric is the key to interpretation. In order to allow the rediscovery of the distinctive colors of Frescobaldi’s music, two Italian instruments of the period were used: a harpsichord attributed to Celestini - the latest research seems to prove that he was in fact not its maker and that it dates from the 1650s - preserved at the Municipal Museum of The Hague, and the restored organ (c. 1630) located in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Brescia.
