Rhiannon Giddens returns to the forefront after her album "Tomorrow is my turn" nominated in the Best Folk Album category at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
The singer, a member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, will release a brand new album titled "Freedom Highway," consisting of 12 songs including 9 originals written and co-written with the band that accompanied her during her last tour. The 3 other tracks completing the album are traditional songs, two of which date back to the civil rights movement. ("Birmingham Sunday" and "Freedom Highway")
The songs on this new album are based on narratives of slaves since 1800, on the history of African Americans from the last century, the civil rights movement of the 60s, but also on the headlines and demands of the people from the streets of Ferguson and Baltimore today.
