Lukid and Tapes, the "grimy rave" dream team from the TTT label, are back in action under the name Rezzett for the label's 100th release - a raw and essential gem for fans of Actress, Rat Heart, Lee Gamble, Demdike Stare, and Jamal Moss. Pillars of the label since their first EP 'Rezzett' in 2013, the duo has become emblematic of the mutant and noisy rave scene of the last decade, releasing singles until the release of their acclaimed self-titled album in 2018. 'Meant Like This' breaks five years of near-silence with a new wave of tracks, both harsh and bittersweet, that deconstruct the classic codes of rave to marinate them in Rezzett's unique and astringent sauce. Raw and striking reminiscences of turbulent hardcore breakbeat, lush jungle from the mid-90s, Detroit techno, and Chicago house are distilled to the extreme and then reconstructed with a sensitivity close to shoegaze; the distortion pushed into the red and the noise serve here as a metaphor for the infidelity of memory and the vertigo of time travel. As expected, 'Meant Like This' offers a deeply satisfying experience. If one had to choose a favorite, the chilling thrill of the retrospective montage "Vivz Portal" stands out immediately, evoking *Diversions 1994-1996* by Lee Gamble marinated in acetone, even some facets of Honour's productions. But if you're looking to let loose, turn to the unleashed hardcore breakbeat sequences of "Leg It" - with its texture reminiscent of a copy of a copy of a cassette - and the emotional intensity of the hardcore track "Borjormi Spring." As for fans of the most abrasive cosmic Midwest club music, they will be thrilled by the striking sounds (that will make your teeth rattle) of "Spicy Pipes" and the chaotic beauty of "Ladbroke," a track worthy of the best productions of Hieroglyphic Being.
