The New Wave movement of the early 80s was characterized by a use of synthesizers like never before in pop-rock music. Electronics made their way into both sides of the same reaction to a deeply troubled England: exuberant and festive, with bouncy gimmicks for dancing among the New Romantics, and deep, desperate pads among the neighboring Cold Wave “crows.”
Klaus Nomi stood right in the middle of these two currents. Between "The Cold Song" and "Simple Man," the balancing act was perilous, but he pulled it off brilliantly.
It is in this spirit of homage to Klaus Nomi's artistic legacy—a bridge between pop and opera, between the dark and festive facets of "New Wave," between electronic music's pioneering Europe and rock's birthplace in the USA—that the cream of the French and international electronic scene came together on the 40th anniversary of his passing.
Arnaud Rebotini, Agar Agar, Canblaster, Para One, The Hacker, Vince Clarke, Flabaire, and Mud Deep all answered the call to reinterpret Klaus Nomi's songs and his extraordinary voice. Beyond simple remixes, they offer "re-creations" of the tracks, often taking them far from their original starting point.
