Description

"Hug of Gravity" is Raphael Loher's second solo album and his first for Hallow Ground. The Swiss pianist and composer uses piano preparations, tape recorders, and digital tools to forge an aesthetic of playful reduction and rhythmic abstraction. The source material for these four prolific pieces comes from recordings of the artist performing "Keemuun," his previous album released in 2022. Loher used them in a meticulous two-phase working process to create an album that is both the fruit of and a tribute to transformation, exploring themes of alternative temporalities and spatialities. "Hug of Gravity" oscillates between experimental electronic music, ambient, and minimalist music, evoking the work of artists such as William Basinski, Linda Catlin Smith, or his label colleague Andrius Arutiunian.
